Dubai Travel Anticipation

It’s finally just 2 days left until our flight to Dubai.

On sunday, my sister, my brother and me are gonna take the plane (by Turkish Airlines which is something else to look forward to) from Stuttgart and fly to Istanbul. There, we will have a 4-hours layover, and then, again with Turkish Airlines, continue our flight to DXB <3

We will arrive pretty early, at around 4 am local time, but we planned to just leave our suitcases in the hotel lobby and go straight to the beach.

Apart from relaxing on the beach, I have a lot of things on my to-see list in Dubai which I am extremely looking forward to. And here they are:

1. Desert Safari:

I literally can’t wait to see the desert for the first time in my life. I am overly excited, I can’t put it into words.

We booked a package that includes the ride to the dessert in those white Landrovers, a short ride on camels, time to take photos and watch the sunset, barbecue dinner and drinks, a belly dance performance and more. In the evening we will be dropped off at our hotel.

2. Burj Khalifa:

Bildergebnis für burj khalifa

Going to Dubai without visiting the Burj Khalifa would be a huge fail! So of course, this is at the very top of my list of things to do when in Dubai. I have to admit though, that the skyline of Dubai doesn’t even come close to the ones in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and I don’t think that the view from atop the tallest skyscraper looks as spectacular as the one from the Shanghai Tower (see here).

Still, I wanna say that I have been on top of the world’s tallest skyscraper.

3. Sheikh Al Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi:

Another must-visit on my Dubai list. This mosque is outside of Dubai, in Abu Dhabi, but taking a taxi is supposed to be quite cheap in the UAE, especially if you can share it with other people. We would spend the whole day in Abu Dhabi when already there, so I would have to check out what else we could do there.

4. Beaches and Beach Clubs:

Because there are way too many in Dubai, I will just summarize all the Beaches that are on my list. It probably won’t be possible to go to them all, but I definitely want to see at least two of them.

  • West 14th Beach on The Palm

Because we stay at Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate, we get free access to this beach which looks incredible with its infinity pool. It is located on the artifical island of The Palm.

  • Jumeirah Beach and Jumeirah Beach Residence:

Probably the most famour public beach in Dubai, including the promenade with lots and lots of restaurants, cafes and shops (including Shake Shack).

Here, with the Burj Al Arab, one of the most expensive hotels in the world.

  • Nikki Beach:

Being probably the most popular beach club in Dubai, this is actually a must visit. We will probably go to this place on thursday if it isn’t too expensive.

 5. Dubai Mall + Aquarium:

Travelling with my sister means going shopping, even if it is only for 1 or 2 hours. The Dubai Mall has one interesting asset that the other malls in Dubai don’t have: The biggest aquarium in the world. I guess that’s worth a visit.

6. Butterfly Garden:

I really wanna see this place. I love butterflies and I would love to walk in those gardens with dozens and dozens of colourful butterflies whirring around me. A beautiful imagination.

7. Miracle Garden:

Do I need to say more?

8. Dubai Marina:

Bildergebnis für Dubai marina

I love marinas and looking at yachts, and Dubai, being one of the richest countries in the world probably has some dope yachts chilling in the marina.

For the sights, this was pretty much all. I didn’t include the restaurants and bars and clubs we want to go to, although Shake Shack and Nusr Et (Saltbae’s restaurant) are pretty much on the list as well. But with these things, it always depends on the circumstances.

I am already pretty much excited, especially for the great weather and the desert.

Have you ever been to Dubai? Is there anything you could add to my Must-See List?

Thank you for reading and travelling with me.

Travel Anticipation: Taipei

By the time you are reading this, I will be in Yuyao, reuniting with my friends.

The reason I go to Taipei is actually because I am going to China for one of my best friend’s wedding. She is getting married on January 9th and I didn’t want to miss it. I have never been to a chinese wedding and I also wanted to be at the wedding of a friend who helped me a lot during my time in China.

After the wedding I will stay in Yuyao for a few days, and then on the 13th, I will board my plane to Taipei. I will stay there for 2 days and 3 nights. On Monday I will land in Shanghai and stay there for a few days until flying back to Germany on the 19th.

So my stay will be quite short, but I guess it will be very busy.

Because I am not taking my laptop with me, I will now write an anticipation post about my plans in Taipei.

  1. Taipei 101

If this is not on your Taipei List, you are doing something wrong.

  2. Elephant Mountain

After hiking up this hill, you will have a magnificient view over Taipei and its famous landmark

  3. Night Markets: Shilin or Raohe

I can’t wait to indulge into all of the yummy and cheap varieties of asian food here.

  4. Beitou Hot Springs and Thermal Valley

I would really love to visit this place while I am in Taipei, but I am not sure if I will be able to visit with this huge itinerary. I will definitely ask about this place at the hostel.

  5. National Chiang-Kai-Shek Memorial Hall

I am still not sure if I will visit the historical sites yet. If the hot springs should be easy to visit I will probably skip the memorial halls.

  6. Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall

This place actually looks very beautiful and it has a nice park. I guess this would be more interesting to me than the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial since I have visited Sun Yatsen’s Memorial Hall in Nanjing already. So I’d have the background knowledge already.

  7. Guandu Temple or Lonshan Temple

There are two temples I am interested in. One of them is the more popular Lonshan Temple and the other one is the more artistic looking Guandu Temple. I will decide spontaneously which one to visit. Maybe I can make it to both.

  8. Shrimp Fishing

I would really like to visit this unique place because I am sure I can nowhere find a place like this.

  9. Jiufen Cat Village

I’d love to visit this place while I am there. I head it was the example city for Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli Academy Award winning movie Spirited Away, one of my most favourite movies during both my childhood and adulthood. It already looks amazingly beautiful on the picture and I would love to spend at least a few hours here. I will also get some information about this place at the hostel.

Food & Drinks

  1. Modern Toilet Restaurant

I am dying to eat here! I think you know why :’D

  2. Hello Kitty Shabu Shabu

I have never been a big Hello Kitty fan, but if it comes to food, I am a sucker for anything cute-looking :’D

  3. Ounce Bar

This bar has a secret entrance, and I have always wanted to visit a bar, hotel or library with a secret entrance.

  4. Xiaomijo

    Did someone say cute lattes?

  5. Rilakkuma Cafe

*heavybreathing* As you can see, my Taipei itinerary is filled with cute cafes and restuarants :’D

  6. Coffee Alley Zhongxiao

Who doesn’t like waffles? I will try to make some time for this place. I am not sure if I can…

  7. Agnes B. Cafe

This looks like the Angelina Paris of Taipei, so I will also put this on the maybe-list.

  8. Ooh Cha Cha

This actually looks like a perfect place for lunch/brunch.

  9. Din Tai Fung

Probably the most famous restaurant in Taipei and I will definitely visit it after going up the observatory deck.

So, as you can see, my itinerary for Taipei is HUGE! You might wonder why, but I know exactly: It will be the second asian country I will visit, and I am more than excited to make this happend. So I will have to try and make the best out of it. I just can’t wait for it and I hope that everything will go according to my imagination :)

Oh and the hostel I am staying at will be Oxygen Youth Hostel:

See you next time with a lot of new and old posts from China and Taipei.

Have you ever been to Taipei?
If there is any recommendations, please leave them for me in the comments.

Thanks for travelling with me.

Travel Anticipation: Cappadocia, Turkey

Today is the day I am flying to Turkey for a 3-week vacation. And next week Wednesday, on the 14th, I am finally gonna visit the famous fairy chimneys of Cappadocia.

We are gonna stay 3 nights there in probably one of the most amazing hotels, called local cave house hotel:

Here is what I want to see and do in this beautiful place:

1 Hot Air Balloon Ride:

This is something, I have always dreamed of. It looks and sounds so adventurous, at the same time it looks beautiful in the sky and I can imagine to have one of the best views you can get when you think of a hot air balloon ride.

The rides are pretty expensive, I have to warn you, but it takes 1 hour, includes a pick-up service, breakfast, sparkling wine celebration and you even get a certificate.

2 Underground City Kaymakli/Derinkuyu:

These underground cities were built during the time of the Crusaders, where Christians were looking for a hiding place and built these cities in the underground. I wanna know more about them, hopefully when I get there next week. And this is how they look like:

Derinkuyu; Source:

3 Üchisar Castle:

From this ancient stone castle, you can have a perfect view over Cappadocia.

4 Sunset at Rose Valley:

This valley is famous for its red colour and is a nice place to explore.

5. Have a panorama view at Pigeon Valley:

Here, you can’t pass by vehicles, so you have to walk and explore everything on foot. There is apparently a panorama view and many typical trees with the evil eye beade decoration. And, of course, many cute pigeons.

6. Open Air Museum and National Park:

I will think about these when I am there and maybe ask the hotel reception about these two sights.

7. Visit a pottery and a carpet shop:

Even if I won’t buy anything, which I probably won’t because the carpets are especially huge and expensive, I would just like to see all the different varieties of carpets they offer. The potter shops, on the other hand, might be more affordable and I would maybe think about buying one.

8 Watch the whirling dervishes:

In the evening, there are some organized turkish nights, especially for tourists that come from Japan, China or Korea who are interested in this foreign culture. Still, although I am turkish myself, I have never seen the swirling dervishes before, and I would like to experience this magical moment.

I think these are the main things I wanna do in this beautiful place. I am sure it is gonna be different from my prior trips to Turkey. I am already so excited to go back to my second home country and do all these things I have always wanted to.
