ABC Travel List: L – Laos, Lisbon, Lagoons of New Caledonia

Deciding upon the places this time was quite a hard time for me. There are many but none places that could have been taken into consideration.

Let’s begin this confusing blogpost about the letter L

L

1. Country: Laos

Source: theindepentend.co.uk

Laos is the place that no one really knows about, but right after seeing a picture of that place, everyone would put that country on the travel list for sure.

Here are some amazing things to see and do in Laos.

-Pha That Luang Temple

-Wat Phou

What for visit Wat Phou, you might ask? Well, just because the architecture of these ruins looks just like out of a fantasy movie set à la Lord of the Rings.

-Si Phan Don / Don Det 4000 Islands

Four thousand islands in the river of Mekong. Sounds like a natural wonder, and the pictures surely promise nothing nonetheless.

Laos seems to be the place to be if you wanna experience real Buddhism culture.

This blogpost made me go to Laos even more than ever before. So that’s definitely gonna be on my soon-to-visit list.

2. City: Lisbon

Bildergebnis für lisbon

I always imagine Portugal to be melting pot of a european Brazil. Looking at this picture, I get major South-American-Mediterranean vibes from this picture.

The first thing I think about when I hear Lisbon is the food. I hear a lot of great, delicious things about protuguese food, but I can’t really imagine what it looks and and tastes like. I just realized that I have never tasted it before, since it’s pretty hard to find any portuguese restaurants here in Germany, but I would die to try it.

-Mosteiro dos Jeronimos

Actually, this place looks amazing! I could imagine myself just chilling here the whole afternoon, admiring the view and snapping photos.

-miradouro de santa luzia

What a wonderful, summery cute little village.

And now, I will choose some new dishes to try…

-Polvo à lagareiro (octopus roasted in olive oil)

-Queijo de Azeitão (Azeitão sheep’s milk cheese)

This looks like the best cheese party you can have! OMG I am craving this so much right now!

-Peixe e marisco (Fish and seafood)

I love fish, shrimps and everything that comes out of the sea. And Portugal is one of those countries that eats a lot of seafood as well. Good for me.

-Bacalhau à brás (Scrambled eggs with cod)

Bildergebnis für bacalhau à brás

I’d probably have this for breakfast every morning…

-Sericaia com ameixa de Elvas (a soft eggy cake and a crystallized plum)

Bildergebnis für Sericaia com ameixa de Elvas

That would be my dessert, actually, a bit too heavy for my taste.

3. UNESCO World Heritage Site: Lagoons of New Caledonia

Bildergebnis für lagoons of new caledonia
Source: stuff.co.nz

New Caledonia is in the Pacific Ocean, north-east of Australia, in the french pacific-area. The remoteness give this place its unique beauty. It is considered as the second great barrier reef in the world, so this place must be a dream for divers.

This was a great end to a great start I’d say. Which of these mentioned places would you like to go to the most?

And which other places with the letter L can you recommend?

Thanks for reading and travelling with me.

Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award

sisterhood-of-the-world-bloggers-award1

I was nominated by Books for Thought for this Award. I am sooo flattered to be nominated. Although it has been weeks since my last post, I appreciate it that there are still people who think of my blog :) Thanks again for the nomination!

Here are the rules:

Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site.
Put the award logo on your blog.
Answer the ten questions they’ve set you.
Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer.
Nominate ten people.

Here are the 10 Questions I have been asked to answer:

1. Coke or Pepsi? – I don’t like drinking Soda drinks anymore, but I have always been the Coca Cola drinker. Although I have never really cared. It just was the one that could be bought more often.

2. Books turned into movies or tv shows? – I have seldom watched any tv series which were based on a book, but it might be more advantageous for books if they could be turned into tv shows, obviously, because everything could be shown what is also described in a book. I am also already looking forward to watch the Game of Thrones series :)

3. Do you play any instruments? – Unfortunately, I don’t. I once bought a guitar and tried to learn by tabs. I even managed to play some songs, but I always had cramps in my hands, and my mom always complained about the noise, so I neglected it.

4. Best subject in school. – English, Ethics, French, Music. Sometimes, I also had good grades in Spanish, and in my last year I even had Literature, and it was also one of my best grades :) So, as you can see, I am more of an artsy person.

5. Favourite drink at Starbucks. – Chai Tea Latte <3 It is good for your health, and it tastes good.

6. Your thoughts on video games? – I used to spend hours with our old SNES (Super Nintendo), playing Super Mario World or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles :’D Later, it was replaced by the Playstation 1 on which we played the first Harry Potter Game, Spyro, Croc, and Tomb Raider :’D Even during my teenager times I enjoyed playing Tekken, Final Fantasy and Sing Star. Sometimes, I still play some games with my friends, and I also download a few games on my phone or tablet, but I don’t obsessively play as I used to do as a kid anymore :)

7. Would you rather live somewhere cold all the time or hot all the time? – Definitely hot all the time. I already live in the South of Germany where it is often quite cold and rainy, and I am a person who likes heat and sunshine and the sea. Freezing hurts for me, and I just hate it. Sweating on the other hand doesn’t bother me at all :)

8. Favourite fall outfit? – Layerings are the most practical, because it often goes from warm to cold here in Germany during the fall months. A thin, dark red sweatshirt, black skinny jeans, sneakers or boots, leather jacket, scarf and if it is windily, a bonnet.

9. Have you read any graphic novels? What ones? – As a child I sometimes read Donald Duck, Micky Mouse, The Smurfs and so on. Then, I had a Manga phase, and I still have some Manga on my shelves. Unfortunately, I don’t buy them anymore, because they are so expensive and so short. And I always have so many books to read for uni. I also prefer reading books nowadays more than Manga, although there really are some good ones which are worth reading.

10. Hot chocolate or apple cider – Hot chocolate. Nothing is better than chocolate <3. But I also like apple cider :)

Okay, these were my answers. Now here are my questions to the blogs I will nominate:

1. Did you collect something as a child? If yes, what was it?

2. What is your favorite Make-Up Product?

3. Samsung phone or Iphone?

4. What was the last concert you have been to? If you have never been to a concert, what concert would you like to go to?

5. What kind of blogs do you prefer to read the most?

6. If you were forced abstain from any of your senses, which would it be?

7. What was you favorite TV show as a kid? What is it now?

8. Do you use Instagram? If not, what is your favorite application on your phone/tablet?

9. If you could choose to live in a book, which would it be?

10. How many siblings do you have?

And here are the bloggers I nominate:

Alligator Toe

Amanda’s Nose in a Book

Bibliophilic Monologues

Bookish Love

Brin’s Book Blog

Cupid or Cats

Dare to read and enter a world

imjustthisawesome

michichigo

Dovaston’s Diaries

I had a lot of fun with this award, and I hope that the blogs I nominated will also have fun with my questions :)

Thanks for reading!

Tag: The Book Blogger Test

Hey guys! I have been tagged to participate in the Book Blogger Test  by Amanda from amandasnoseinabook. You can read her post over here.

Thank you very much I was happy to be tagged :)

Now, here are my answers :) Have fun!

What are your top three book pet hates?

1. When people “abuse” their books for example drawing or marking inside of the book :O GUYS! There are pagemarkers! And today, we have mobile phones to take photos of the quotes we like. At least, that’s what I do :)

2. Or when people abuse MY books that I lent them. Or don’t even bother to give them back -.-

3. When a book is so boring that I have to check how many pages I still have left to read.

Describe your perfect reading spot.

I love reading everywhere actually. Most often I read in the train, and it can be quite comfortable sometimes. But also very annoying. My favorite place to read is actually on the sofa. Preferably a one-seater-sofa, so that I can’t lie down, or else I am afraid to fall asleep. I often change my sitting position :’D

reading-positions

That’s exactly me! :’D In summer, I also love reading outdoors, on a lawn when I am at the public swimming pools, or at the beach during vacation :)

Tell us three book confessions.

1. Like mentioned before, I tend to look at the pages to count how many there are left until I have finally finished. But this only happens with boring books

2. I still haven’t read the third Lord of the Rings. Probably because I haven’t enjoyed the first two.

3. Sometimes, I drift away while reading, and have to reread the same line 3 or 4 times. If my mind is busy with something, this can also easily happen with exciting books :/

When was the last time you cried during a book?

Puuhhh, I have to think about. I think it was Hunting and Gathering by Anna Gavalda. That book was heart-breaking but beautiful at the same time :’)

How many books are on your bedside table?

Well, I don’t have a bedside table, unfortunately :/ The room is too small for that. That’s quite annoying. But if I had one, there would be zero, because the books I am reading at the moment, are both in my e-reader and my tablet :’D They are Arcadia Burns by Kai Meyer, and Night Film by Marisha Pessl. It has been a long time since the last time I continued reading those books, though, because I was busy with seminar literature :/ And I still can’t continue with those, because I will have to begin yet another book for uni which is probably going to be 1984 by George Orwell.

What is your favorite snack to eat while you’re reading?

Chocolate obviously! Or fruits, but not like a banana or apple, but little fruits like blueberries, grapes, or raspberries. I also ove drinking tea or coffee while reading :)

Name three books you would recommend to everyone.

1. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling, obviously

2. The His Dark Marterials Series by Philip Pullman

3. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami

Show us a picture of your favorite shelf on your bookcase.

Write how much books mean to you in three words.

Way to creativity.

What is your biggest reading secret?

Hmmm, do you mean whether I have a secret about how to read fast? Well, I don’t have such a secret, because I am not that a fast reader. Well, for concentrating, I love reading with music, because I can get easily distracted by background noises. And if this question is referred to a reading secret in form of a book that I read but keep it secret, then that might probably be the Twilight series, but I never made it a secret, though. I even have a signed book by Stephenie Meyer :P

Who I’m Tagging:

Everyone who likes can participate :) If you do, please leave a link with you post in the comments :)

Thanks for reading guys! I hope you enjoyed this.

My Life in Books Tag

I saw this post over at Books For Thought, and decided to do it as well because it is going to be sooo much fun, and quite interesting and creative :) She has found that tag at the youtube channel of jesse the reader, which I also follow and enjoy. He is quite funny, you should check him out :D

Here are my answers:

Pick a book that starts with each of you initials.

The Makioka Sisters by Jun’ichiro Tanizaki. I don’t own that book, but maybe I should read it in the future :)

Count you age starting at the top of your bookshelf. What book is it?

My 22nd book is The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald :) I like that really. Somehow it fits to the age of 22 ;D

Find a book that takes place in your country, state, or city.

Das Mädchen und die Herzogin by Astrid Fritz. It is set in Stuttgart, Germany, so that’s why the book is in german. I also don’t think that there is a translation of that.

Pick a book that represents a destination that you’d love to travel to.

That’s a bit hard, but I think I would pick Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, since I really really want to go to Tokyo, Japan.

Pick your book that has your favourite colour on it.

Image

Although I don’t own this book, and I also didn’t like it that much, it contains both of my favorite colors: Red and Purple.

Which book do you have the fondest memories of.

Harry Potter probably, or most definitely I would say. It has accompanied me through my life and has a significant place in my heart.

Which book did you have the most difficulty reading.

The Lord of the Rings series or rather, the first two books since I could never get myself into reading the third. I really found it difficult to get into that writing style. I was very bored, I unfortunately have to admit. The movie, on the other hand, was a blast!

Which book on your TBR pile will give you the most satisfaction when you read it.

Probably almost every book standing on my shelf and waiting for me to pick it up. However, I think it will be a great accomplishment to read finally read the classics such as The Hound of the Baskervilles, Wuthering Heights, The Idiot, and so on.

Oh, we have come to an end of that Tag. That was really a lot of fun! Maybe I should do more book tags in the future :)

Everyone can feel free to participate. I would be happy if you could leave a comment so that I can check out your answers as well :)

Thanks for reading!
