As I already told before, I helped my mom cooking the food for New Year’s Eve. I wanted to learn cooking lentil no-meat balls at all costs. It can’t be considered as a warm meal, but I could eat it the whole day! I love everything with lentils. They taste so good!
We started to wash and then cook the lentils in hot water. The lentils should be swimming in the water. You can use as much as you want. We used 2 glasses full of lentils. It has to boil for about 20-30 minutes, just as long as the lentils will be peeled off in the boiling water.
In the meantime I picked some leafs off the Parsley and the dill.
Then my mom cut everything, additionally one onion which will be heated in a pan with olive oil later. They have to be cut very tiny and small. When the lentils were ready, we turned the oven to 3 and let it rest on the heat a little bit. Now, I oiled a little pan, heated it a bit before I put the cut onions inside. You can also add garlic if you want to have a better taste.
Heat the onions a few minutes, then add tomato paste to it. Also add salt, pepper, and caraway to it. It will taste better. When the mix has a smooth dark red color and texture, turn down the oven and let it cool down.
If the lentils have soaked the water in, empty the lentils into a big pan, add bulgur rice to it, mix it and let them cool down.
After everything has cooled down, add the mix with the onion and the tomato sauce into the lentils. If it is cold, you can mix and knead everything with your hands. If those things are mixed, you cannow add the parsley and dill and mix everything again.
The mixture normally has to have an orangey color and sticks a little bit on your finger, but that’s normal, because it can be formed better if it is sticky like that.
Now, form the mixture into balls. I formed them into lenghthy balls, because we eat it as fingerfood in lettuces.
I am so glad I know how to cook this now. It also isn’t difficult at all. So if I should ever live alone, I would cook a load of these and eat them for 3 days :’D it is healthy as well. I am looking forward for the next time to do this.
